Do you all know what these numbers are?
The price of luxury brand goods? The number of Asilla employees? Or the PIN number of your bank account? Joking aside, this number is the average life expectancy of a Japanese male at 81 years old, converted to hours (as of 2020). (as of 2020).
When some people see the figure of about 700,000 hours, some may feel it is a lot, and some may feel it is a little.
I felt it was too few. And I would say even less, since the number of hours you can actually be active is calculated by subtracting the time you spend sleeping.
It is often said that the older you get, the faster the year goes by.
The moment I saw it as a number, I felt my vague ideas about life accelerate.
There's no time to worry or stand still. ...... We have no choice but to challenge ourselves!
Thus began the story of my reincarnation from a large corporation to the different world of a startup.
I am Naoki Otsuka, who joined the company in October 2021. I work for Asilla as a creative sales person.
This is important, so I'll say it again. I am a creative. Let me briefly introduce myself.
・March 2018 Graduated from Tokyo Denki University, Faculty of Engineering, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering
・April 2018 Joined DENKOKUSHA Inc.
・September 2018 Joined Hogi Medical Co.
・Oct. 2021 Joined Asilla Co.
During my school days, I spent most of my time playing baseball and playing in a band. In college, I majored in electrical and electronic engineering and learned a wide range of knowledge such as electric circuits, electronic circuits, and programming.
After graduating from university, I started working as an electrical design engineer, but left after 3 months because I did not feel my future was expanding. Because I left my job early, it was a bit of a struggle to get a job at a second company, but I managed to find another job.
At the second company, I spent my days as a sales person proposing consumable materials (scalpels, drapes, gowns, etc.) related to surgery to doctors and nurses. In addition to developing new business, I was also involved in solution sales at large facilities such as general hospitals and university hospitals, aiming to improve operating room operations and hospital management based on surgical performance data. Because I often spoke with busy doctors and nurses, I believe I acquired the ability to convey my thoughts in a concise manner.
As for my career, this is my third company in my fourth year of working, so I have deviated from the route that many people would take. Generally speaking, I've screwed up quite a bit.
However, I have no regrets at all. Because I am happier living the life I have chosen than living according to someone else's opinion.
Now, I have been reborn in a different world of startups, but I used to work for a company that fits the definition of a so-called large company. So, for your reference, here is a summary of the differences between a large company and a startup.
Although this may not apply to all large companies and startups, I hope you will find it useful as an indicator for finding a job or changing careers. You are also welcome to express your interest in Asilla!
There are a lot of things to cover, so I'll just try to summarize them here. On the other hand, in a start-up like Asilla, the company system is not yet complete, and I felt that even a small number of people are required to make full use of tools and abilities in order to achieve results.
What I also feel is particularly different is the sense of speed. The speed of a startup is really fast. The speed at which work comes around and the speed of growth of the company and individuals is off the charts. In fact, I was able to participate in a business meeting on my first day at the company and experienced sales at an exhibition from my third day. It is the best. I believe that those who enjoy and can cope with fast-paced changes are suited for a startup.

I want to use my resources to help make the world a place where the generations that come after me can move forward with hope for the future. As my previous job was in the medical industry, I was very close to the increase in medical costs and the decrease in the working population due to the declining birthrate and aging population. From there, I became interested in poverty, educational disparities, and many other social issues not only in Japan but around the world. I would like to solve many issues that the world as a whole is facing with the power of our young generation and new technologies such as AI, and make the world a more sustainable and psychologically secure place. I would also like to go to space in the future. I would like to meet and talk with intelligent life forms different from human beings in the unimaginably vast universe.
My impression after actually working at Asilla for a month is, to put it mildly, excellent.
Mr. Kimura, the president, and everyone who works with me are energetic, full of humor, and excellent in their practical skills. I am truly grateful to have been accepted into such an environment, and now that I have been given the opportunity, I intend to make sure I repay it with results.
Every day I alternately feel my lack of ability and my growth, but I am having a lot of fun.
I will do my best to make Asilla the best in the world!
Asilla is looking for people to work with.
Let's work dynamically and delicately on a global scale and aim to be the best in the world together!
