SECOM CO., LTD. (hereinafter "SECOM"), NTT DOCOMO BUSINESS, Inc. (formerly NTT Communications Corporation; hereinafter "NTT DOCOMO BUSINESS"), and Asilla, Inc. (hereinafter "Asilla") will conduct a trial of next-generation event security (hereinafter "the Trial") at "TOKYO ATLAS," an international art exhibition hosted by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and other organizers. The Trial combines AI video analytics, secure mobile communications, the security robot "cocobo," and human security personnel.
In the Trial, footage from multiple cameras installed across the expansive outdoor event venue will be processed on a closed video storage and analytics platform within NTT DOCOMO BUSINESS's mobile network, without passing through the internet. This makes it possible to handle video more securely without large-scale wired installation work at the venue. Leveraging this environment, the Trial will verify the effectiveness of behavior detection using Asilla's AI video analytics, as well as methods for acquiring and analyzing people-flow data that shows visitor movement and dwell patterns. In addition, SECOM will verify the potential for improving security quality and streamlining security operations at large-scale, heavily attended events by combining robotic patrols with human verification and judgment.
At large-scale and outdoor events, a safe and secure environment must be maintained continuously amid large crowds of visitors. At the same time, to secure wide areas efficiently with limited personnel, it is important to have systems in which AI and robots support on-site security staff in their judgment and response, enhancing both security quality and response capability.
In addition, at outdoor events or events spanning multiple sites, laying wired networks and preparing on-premises equipment can be a burden. Real-time AI video analysis in particular requires a communications environment capable of stably transmitting large volumes of video data. In light of these challenges, the Trial will verify the feasibility of next-generation event security in urban spaces by combining new technologies with the security operations expertise SECOM has cultivated over the years.
*1: docomo MEC® is a low-latency, highly secure cloud service for businesses that is directly connected to NTT DOCOMO's mobile network.
*2: MEC stands for "Multi-access Edge Computing." Unlike conventional cloud services, it is a form of edge computing that reduces communication latency by placing servers close to devices.
* "docomo MEC®" is a registered trademark of NTT DOCOMO, INC.
* "docomo MEC®" is provided by NTT DOCOMO, INC. and sold by NTT DOCOMO BUSINESS, Inc. under its authority to conclude contracts as an agent and a comprehensive business outsourcing arrangement.
AI analyzes camera footage to detect human movement and unusual behavior. Detection results are used as supplementary information to help on-site security staff check the situation and decide on any necessary response.
asilla BIZ visualizes people-flow data and dwell trends. By identifying congested times and locations, the Trial will verify the potential for optimizing security staffing and for measuring and improving the effectiveness of event operations.
Using NTT DOCOMO BUSINESS's "docomo business SIGN®," the Trial will build an IoT communications environment equipped with security functions. By monitoring communications from the cameras to the network and detecting and blocking threats as needed, the Trial will enhance the security of video transmission at outdoor events.
Using "docomo MEC®," the Trial will build a low-latency, highly secure environment suited to processing video data. This enables real-time analysis of footage captured at the outdoor event venue, supporting early verification and response by on-site security staff.
To ensure stable communications even in environments with large crowds where network congestion is expected, technologies such as "5G Slicing"*3 and "5G Wide®"*4 will be used. Through this, the Trial will verify the practical effectiveness of AI utilizing real-time video at large-scale events.
*3: 5G Slicing is a mobile network service that achieves stable communications less affected by congestion from general users by occupying part of the radio bandwidth.
*4: 5G Wide® is a mobile network service that maintains stable communications and improves communication speeds even in congested areas and time periods by allocating packets with priority over general users.
SECOM's autonomous security robot "cocobo" will patrol outdoor areas. By combining monitoring with fixed cameras and patrols by a mobile robot, the Trial will verify the potential for more flexible situational awareness and deterrent effects.
On-site security staff check the information acquired and detected by AI and robots, and make the final decisions and on-site responses. The Trial aims to improve security quality by using AI and robots not as replacements for on-site security staff, but as technologies that support human judgment and response.
The Trial will be conducted in accordance with relevant laws and regulations, venue rules, and coordination with relevant organizations. Security robot patrols will be operated with consideration for the safety of visitors and other people in the vicinity.
Furthermore, responses will not be determined solely on the basis of AI detection results; on-site security staff will make decisions after checking the footage and on-site conditions. Data relating to camera footage and AI analysis will be handled appropriately in accordance with rules established among the parties, with the purpose of use, management methods, and scope of handling clearly defined.
Based on the insights gained through the Trial, SECOM will further advance its next-generation security model combining AI video analytics, security robots, secure communications infrastructure, and human security.
Going forward, SECOM will explore deployment to a variety of security settings, including event venues, public spaces, commercial facilities, office buildings, and multi-site facilities, aiming to deliver higher-quality, sustainable security services by using technology to support the judgment and response capabilities of on-site security staff.
NTT DOCOMO BUSINESS will support AI utilization across a range of industries, including security, by providing the low-latency, highly secure communications infrastructure required in the AI era. Under its "AI-Centric ICT Platform®"*5 vision for a next-generation ICT platform optimized for the AI era, the company will promote the social implementation of AI and value creation across industries.
Asilla will advance its AI security technology while also working to apply people-flow data to improving facility and event operations. By expanding its services to simultaneously improve security quality, visitor experience, and operational efficiency, Asilla will contribute to realizing a safe and secure society.
*5: The "AI-Centric ICT Platform®" is a next-generation ICT platform optimized for the AI era that enables companies to use AI to drastically improve productivity, strengthen competitiveness, and transform their business models.
